Background
2019 marked a record year for the global movement of people. Some countries are driving its inhabitants away through conflict, famine or poor economic prospects. Other countries are on the receiving end, and two that stand out are Canada and Germany. These two countries share little in the way of geography, history and culture, but both have stepped up to accept large numbers of migrants over the past decade, and continue to do so despite domestic and international pressures. How are the Canadian and German publics responding to the arrival and settlement of large numbers of migrants in their cities and towns?
